Week 27: What a strange week that was! I suppose y

Week 27: What a strange week that was! I suppose you could call it something of a mental health week. The most significant of which was my diagnosis (Asperger's/Autism). The result wasn't surprising to any of us really but it has put things in perspective.
I'd got an ADHD diagnosis several years ago and while it explained some things it didn't explain it all. Now we know a bit more what's going on...

I think it would be hard to put all I'm thinking and feeling about this into a post here, maybe I'll write about it on my blog later if you're interested?

However I'd say my main two feelings are:

1) Good, at least I now know a bit more about why I see the world differently.

2) Now what? I'm in the UK and one of the first things my doctor said is that they don't really have any support for adults with autism post-diagnosis (wonderful!) and everything I've seen seems to be targeted at children or young adults.
Does anyone know if there are any groups or services for adults?

Side note: I've always been hesitant to post 'behind the scenes' stuff about myself or my life but I've realised my 'oddness' is too much a part of me, how I see the world and even how I write not to share. I'm going to be a little different no matter what so people might as well know why. 🙂

Anyway because of all of that I was far too distracted to write, I'm looking forward to trying to get on track for next week!

Week 25: For some reason I've been feeling a bit..

Week 25: For some reason I've been feeling a bit... a bit meh... I can't tell if I feel burnt out, uninspired or just tired because the days are long but we're stuck inside because of lockdown... Either way I just decided to take a break and do a bit of reading instead. And by a bit of reading I mean devouring several books! 😂

What have you been doing to keep sane lately? Have you read any good books?

Also random fact every single time I write sane I have to double check the spelling so I don't accidentally write it in French (sain)! Sometimes being bi-lingual can be weird. 😛

Week 23 I was recovering from my vaccine and, I'll be honest, I felt very tired all week! Still that's not the worst side effect and I'm still super happy with the amount I managed to write.
Also I had the bonus of my cats checking up on me to make sure I was alright frequently throughout the day as well as Dagger keeping an eye on me 🙂

Weeks 21 I did some worldbuilding which was fun. Setting some time aside to go over things and make sure they're all working out and making sense then helps with the writing process later on.
Should I maybe explain how I write stories? I have two slightly different approaches depending on if its a Lifelong Scribe project or a Scribe & Dagger project but both have similarities and it might be fun to share if you're interested in hearing about it?

Week 22 I did lots or writing which I was very happy about and quite surprised at to be honest as it was the week of my first Covid vaccine and I was worried I was going to feel sick. I did start to feel tired towards the end of the week but I wrote 5,000 + words the very day after the jab so that was good.
Now I'm just hoping I won't feel worse when I get my second dose but I'll be glad when I'm fully vaccinated!

Week 19: I decided to split this week between writ

Week 19: I decided to split this week between writing and practising drawing. I used to love drawing but I was heavily discouraged from it by some family members when I was a child so I used to hide it, as I got older and school/uni took up more time it became easier to focus just on my writing but I really miss drawing and I want to get better at it so I can share illustrations of the characters, races, places and much more from my stories!

Do you have a hobby or passion you used to do or wish you could do more? What is it and what's stopped you from doing it more?

I also managed a decent bit of writing this week so I was feeling much happier 😀

Week 17: So as this had been another week where I

Week 17:
So as this had been another week where I didn't feel great I thought I'd introduce you to Ember instead. I've got a bit more about her on my blog (lifelongscribe.com) but here's some random facts about her:

1) When we first got her she wouldn't drink water out of a bowel and I had to get a hamster bottle for her.
2) She was almost mute until she was over a year old and has only learnt to mew by copying her 'brother' Bandit.
3) She only started to 'blep' when she hit 1 year old and now she does it all the time.
4) We think she would prefer it if we lived in Japan as she hates sofas but loves to sit next to us when we sit on the floor. Maybe she'd prefer one of those traditional Japanese tables?
She's a strange creature, she drives us crazy, but we love her.

Weeks 14, 15 & 16: Oh dear, these weeks were rough

Weeks 14, 15 & 16:
Oh dear, these weeks were rough and I didn't get any writing done. I was very ill and then I was recovering. Not fun. 🙁

However! Instead of focusing of that I wanted to share something more fun about myself, namely my first ever 'special interest': Dinosaurs! 😁🦖🦕

I flipping loved them as a kid! While I always had trouble remembering the names (thanks ADHD part of my brain there!) I was nonetheless absolutely fascinated about dinosaurs and wanted to talk about them all the time! Like ALL THE TIME!
I wanted to talk about which ones I liked the look of, which ones could do what etc., I had books about them, knew a song off by heart naming a lot of them. It was my thing!

It also drove my family completely mental!

I remember having a specific way of trying to 'slip it' into conversation, a ritual I'd go through ever dinner time. I’m sure I was as subtle as a T.Rex draped in Christmas lights!

I still like dinosaurs... and I still can't remember all their names.

I think this interest evolved rather than completely went away (after all at the beginning of 2020 I bought a book on them just for fun). I think it changed and fed into my liking for strange creatures, going via dragons into my own created creatures… 🦖🐉

I didn't write loads and I soon found out why... I was ill... Sigh 🙁
Instead of dwelling on how ill I felt and how little I got done here's a picture of Bandit (our youngest) looking... Well I'm not quite sure what that expression is... Suave? Disgruntled? Haughty? What do you think?

Week 9:
This week was all over the place! But I still managed to get things done!

I'm trying to learn to celebrate the small wins! Are you any good at that? What's your advice?
I struggle to be positive when the world can seem so negative... I'm trying to learn to be more positive.
Although I'm not saying you can never be sad, cross etc. I don't think you have to be walking around with a fake happy smile plastered across your face all the time!... But I don't want my brain to see only the bad stuff!
One thing I started doing a couple of years ago was to write down 1 bullet-point of something positive that had happened per day. That was a good place to start...

So now I can say that, thought that week what chaos (including illness etc.) I'm glad I still managed to get 11,568 words done! That's not nothing! 😀

I took the week off writing to do some reading and work on some side projects I'm hoping to share with you one day.

My projects include my writing as Lifelong Scribe, the stories I'm creating as part of my Scribe & Dagger work. But I'd also like to share stuff about writing (world-building and the like) but it'll all have to be from my angle as a neurodivergent writer.

Week 7: This was a good week! I finished the first

Week 7:
This was a good week! I finished the first draft of one of the stories I'm writing for Scribe & Dagger! Yay! (So I was ordered by Dagger to take a mini celebratory half week off!)

The main character in this story is called Conrad and he's one of my favourite characters we've worked on together! I can't wait to share it with you 🙂 <3

Week 6: I took the week off!
It's important to take time off work when you can (I'm terrible at this! But I need to learn in order to look after my mental health!) so as it was our anniversary week and it snowed this seemed like a good excuse!

I'm currently in a mini heatwave as I write this and I'm kinda missing the snow and it's chilly bright blue skies (which are nice when you get them... rare as that can be in Scotland!).

Week 5: My 3,000 words per working day is now my standard goal. I had a fairly good week and, even though I actually felt quite ill during most of it, I got a lot of writing done despite this! Yay!

Week 4: Building off last week's test I knew I co

Week 4:
Building off last week's test I knew I could easily write 6,000 + words on a good day but that probably wasn't a good idea as a target.
Firstly it leads to burnout, tiredness and even pain in my eyes from staring at the screen for long periods of time.
Secondly I have bad days sometimes e.g. where I just feel tired or not motivated and having a high minimum target like that wouldn't be good for those days.

So! I decided on a goal of 3,000 words per working day!
This feels like a much more manageable target. On bad days I can probably push myself to get there and on a good day I can probably overshoot it (but also I can give myself permission to stop when I hit 3,000 for my own mental and physical well-being).

I spent this week aiming for my 3,000 goal and it felt good! I'm sticking to this for now!

A decent amount of writing, reading and world-building during these weeks (switching from Scribe & Dagger to my own Lifelong Scribe projects to change things up and keep myself interested).

Week 9:
This week was all over the place! But I still managed to get things done!

I'm trying to learn to celebrate the small wins! Are you any good at that? What's your advice?
I struggle to be positive when the world can seem so negative... I'm trying to learn to be more positive.
Although I'm not saying you can never be sad, cross etc. I don't think you have to be walking around with a fake happy smile plastered across your face all the time!... But I don't want my brain to see only the bad stuff!
One thing I started doing a couple of years ago was to write down 1 bullet-point of something positive that had happened per day. That was a good place to start...

So now I can say that, thought that week what chaos (including illness etc.) I'm glad I still managed to get 11,568 words done! That's not nothing! 😀

Week 8:
I took the week off writing to do some reading and work on some side projects I'm hoping to share with you one day.

My projects include my writing as Lifelong Scribe, the stories I'm creating as part of my Scribe & Dagger work. But I'd also like to share stuff about writing (world-building and the like) but it'll all have to be from my angle as a neurodivergent writer.

Week 7: This was a good week! I finished the first

Week 7:
This was a good week! I finished the first draft of one of the stories I'm writing for Scribe & Dagger! Yay! (So I was ordered by Dagger to take a mini celebratory half week off!)

The main character in this story is called Conrad and he's one of my favourite characters we've worked on together! I can't wait to share it with you 🙂 <3

Week 6: I took the week off!
It's important to take time off work when you can (I'm terrible at this! But I need to learn in order to look after my mental health!) so as it was our anniversary week and it snowed this seemed like a good excuse!

I'm currently in a mini heatwave as I write this and I'm kinda missing the snow and it's chilly bright blue skies (which are nice when you get them... rare as that can be in Scotland!).

Week 5: My 3,000 words per working day is now my standard goal. I had a fairly good week and, even though I actually felt quite ill during most of it, I got a lot of writing done despite this! Yay!

It's been a weird couple of years. I hope everyone has been able to look after themselves (both physically and mentally). I've enjoyed writing and creating stories with Dagger. What have you done to keep yourselves sane during the pandemic?

Week 4: Building off last week's test I knew I co

Week 4:
Building off last week's test I knew I could easily write 6,000 + words on a good day but that probably wasn't a good idea as a target.
Firstly it leads to burnout, tiredness and even pain in my eyes from staring at the screen for long periods of time.
Secondly I have bad days sometimes e.g. where I just feel tired or not motivated and having a high minimum target like that wouldn't be good for those days.

So! I decided on a goal of 3,000 words per working day!
This feels like a much more manageable target. On bad days I can probably push myself to get there and on a good day I can probably overshoot it (but also I can give myself permission to stop when I hit 3,000 for my own mental and physical well-being).

I spent this week aiming for my 3,000 goal and it felt good! I'm sticking to this for now!
